This series of drawings proves that inspiration can come in the most unexpected forms. It began when a friend asked for a drawing after her husband died. I asked what she wanted a drawing of, and she said that since he was a painter, that she would like a drawing of a paintbrush. As I worked on her drawing, I found that I was intrigued by both the subject matter, and the medium. I continued the series of paintbrushes, and then got a call from my friend, who enjoyed the drawing I sent her, but told me that she thought I would draw a house painting brush, as her late husband painted houses. Of course a paintbrush has an entirely different meaning, both conceptually and formally for each of us. I find this to be yet another interesting play on language and perception, and the drawings to be an interesting exploration of form. |
