Howard T. Katz is a painter who lives and works in South Florida. He received an MFA in Painting and Drawing from Northern Illinois University in 1996 and a BS in Studio Art from Florida State University in 1990. He is a member of the Art & Humanities and Illustration faculty at the Art Institute of Fort Lauderdale. His artwork has been featured in museums, and galleries. He has also been featured on the television program, "Celebrate South Florida." In his work, he explores the perception of objects on both a formal and conceptual level. From musical compositions, explored visually through shape and color to pieces of armor and their relevance (if any) in today’s society, the artwork, no matter how different visually, all involve the exploration of perception. “Art, at its best, will change how you see the world- or at least a piece of it.” It is this idea that drives his art; the thought that communicating through visual media may cause someone to change their perception of an object. That object may be as simple as an apple, or as complex as their world. |
